A&A Cal Iborra Wedding: Interview with our Bride

Anya and Ash have a special connection with Barcelona so when the venue they had originally chosen closed down due to the pandemic they were understandably very upset. Luckily Barcelona Brides was at hand to assist with finding a new venue. Ensuring they could still celebrate in style with their family and friends in the city that has such a special place in both of their hearts! They chose the amazing Cal Iborra manor house to host the reception and the gorgeous outdoor ceremony with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. And it is only a 40-minute drive from Barcelona. Then they travelled back to the centre of the city to party on into the night at the fantastic Almanac Hotel. And party the night away they did! Here Anya tells us all about her fabulous Cal Iborra Wedding!

Describe your Barcelona wedding day in 3 words!

Perfect, fun, special.

What was your favourite memory from your Barcelona wedding?

Having all of our friends and family together in a beautiful location and venue, loads of people told us our Cal Iborra wedding was the best wedding they’ve ever been to!

Why did you choose Barcelona as your wedding destination?

Barcelona is a special place for us as a couple – we had our first holiday here and have been back many times since. You can’t beat the mix of city and beach with the fab weather! Being a 2-hour flight from the UK is a big plus as well.

What did you love most about your wedding dress? How and where did you find it?

I felt like I’d found me in a dress! I found it in a wedding dress shop that specialises in bohemian dresses and loved that it still felt like a ‘wedding dress’ despite not being traditional. After I chose it we found out it was called the ‘Ash’ gown – my husband is called Ash, so it was meant to be!

If you did it all again what might you change?

Genuinely nothing – we had a little rain in the afternoon (it was mid-September) and had to have our evening party inside instead of outside. Looking back, we had a much better party in a more intimate and private space than we would have had on the glam rooftop!

Tell us about the blooms. What was your favourite thing about your wedding flowers?

They were gorgeous – I sent Rebecca some photos of what sort of thing I liked that I’d found on Pinterest and left her to it! She was able to perfectly capture the colours and feel I wanted, especially as blue and orange probably aren’t typically requested bouquet colours!

What is your advice for other couples getting married in Barcelona?

Trust in the planner! We found Rebecca after our wedding had been delayed due to Covid and our venue ceased trading due to the virus – originally we had travelled a lot and tried to organise everything ourselves. This wouldn’t have been possible in the end anyway due to travel restrictions and being pregnant but I’m so glad we used Rebecca – there would have been so much stress in the last few weeks / on the day of our Cal Iborra wedding if we had not had any help!

What cultural aspects did you include in your big day?

We had a range of tapas dishes for our canapes – which were delicious thanks to Sibarum Catering! They also did paella and meatball / padron pepper corners (little tables where you could go and help yourself to bigger dishes) which were amazing. And lots of cava!
