Y&P la Baronia Jewish Wedding: Interview with the Bride
We loved hearing all about Yael and Philip’s gorgeous rustic la Baronia Jewish wedding. We hope you enjoy the photos and interview.
Describe your la Baronia Jewish wedding in 3 words!
Fairytale, natural/green, perfect.
What was your favourite memory from your la Baronia Jewish wedding?
I liked the quiet moments. There was a moment on the balcony when it was just Philip and I and I was spinning in the dress (before the photographer came). The whole week was exciting and busy and it was nice that we were able to have a quiet moment away from all the guests.
Why did you chose Barcelona as your wedding destination?
We knew we wanted a destination wedding because we live in Germany and most of our family is in the US. Barcelona is very tourist friendly and lots of great flight options from the US. Plus a lot of Americans know a bit of Spanish so it felt like an easier place for our friends and family that have never traveled before. We wanted things to be easy and accessible for people and then on top of that be a place we actually enjoy.
What did you love most about your wedding dress? How and where did you find it?
I knew before I went shopping almost exactly what I was looking for as well as the designer I liked. It’s from Essence of Australia. I’d seen many dresses from them that I loved but they are not in all bridal shops so I used their website to find a store in the area where my family lives that has them and we went and tried on dresses with my mom and bridesmaids. I loved the lace and the sweetheart neckline and the flowing bottom plus I felt like the dress fit the venue very well. I will say that in the end I did buy my dress second hand on Still White and saved quite a bit of money.
Tell us about the blooms. What was your favourite thing about your wedding flowers?
I liked my bouquet, overall I thought they were beautiful. Maybe if I had a bigger budget just more flowers. I really like there flower toss walking back up the aisle.
What is your advice for other couples getting married in Barcelona?
Get a planner. As much as I felt stressed with things (mostly the hotel) it would have been a nightmare if I had to find or pick things myself. Get everything done before you land in Spain so that you can just enjoy your time with family and friends. I loved that I literally hung out with people from the moment we landed Monday night until the moment we left Saturday morning. Literally got the the hotel same time as friends and family and went out that night with people and had coffee in the airport with Philip’s sister on the way out. We were exhausted but it was an amazing week.
What cultural aspects did you include in your la Baronia Jewish wedding?
We tried to keep things relatively secular but I’m Jewish so we included a few knods to Judaism with a blessing on wine and smashing the glass. My favorite was actually that we chose to cut Challah (traditional Jewish bread) instead of a cake and dancing the horah. The flowers walking down the aisle is a Spanish tradition that the officiant told us about and we liked the idea and it was great idea.
What song brings you back to the day and why?
I think all the main moment songs, literally tonight we were talking about the songs we walked down to. I think the song walking back up the aisle and our first dance song will always bring back memories when I hear them.
